Sensor Applications

American Bright offers advanced through-hole and SMT infrared devices that are suitable for detection in applications that include robots, smoke alarms, touchless products, drones and security. Product selection includes discrete IR emitters, photo-transistors, photo-diodes, receiver modules, photo couplers and photo-interrupters.

Robotics

Robots use IR emitters and receivers to sense 3D space and navigate objects in the path of travel by detecting infra-red light refraction.

Touchless

Touchless applications use IR emitters and detectors to sense the presence of an object. IR LEDs are ideal for touchless soap dispensers, faucets hand dryers, and other devices.

Electric Motors

A Photo Interrupter combined with an IR Emitter and an IR receiver device (photo transistor) is used to count rotations of a motor in applications like garage door openers, robotic vacuums, vending machines, printers and industrial automation equipment.

Counting

Photo interrupters combine an IR emitter and receiver to implement counting applications, such as those in gaming machines, ATM machines, and money or ticket dispensers.

Smoke Alarms

Smoke alarms are designed with an IR Emitter paired with a Photo Diode to detect smoke in the air. When smoke is present, the light intensity will reduce due to scattering from particulates of smoke, air-borne dust, or other substances, triggering an alarm.

Drones & Surveillance

High Power IR Emitters are used in drones and security cameras so that they can see clearly at night and capture high resolution videos and images, even in complete darkness without any visible lights.

Consumer Electronics

Ambient Light Sensors are used to detect and dynamically adjust LEDs used for illumination similar to how the human eye automatically adjusts to ambient lighting.
